Mathematics and Computer Science
Approach
The Math and Computer Science Department empowers Middle School students with essential problem-solving, critical, and logical thinking skills through a supportive yet challenging curriculum. By creating dynamic and accessible academic experiences, we ensure that students at all levels have the skills to become confident mathematical and computational thinkers.
Through diverse techniques and hands-on projects, students connect abstract thinking with logical reasoning and problem solving that translates into everyday life. Opportunities to revise work reinforce understanding and embrace mistake-making as a natural learning process. This accessible, real-world approach fosters a positive attitude toward math.
Application: Entrepreneurship Project
Seventh-grade pre-algebra students explored entrepreneurship by devising original restaurant ideas in this “Shark Tank style” project. Going beyond the concept itself, they employed various math skills to determine expenses and revenue before pitching our faculty and staff “mock investors” as to why their vision was financially viable and worthy of investment.
