Step Into Self-Discovery
Shaping Tomorrow's Leaders
At Worcester Academy, leadership isn't just a title—it's a mindset. Starting in the Middle School, students are introduced to the profound benefits of service, with opportunities to lead clubs and drive initiatives that shape school culture and impact our neighboring community.
In the Upper School, students shape their own service journey, making contributions that exemplify our core values in action. Opportunities to expand on their leadership can include roles such as head ambassador, dorm proctor, and diversity committee member. They can also join service-based clubs.
Spotlight: Board of Monitors
Founded in 1886, the Board of Monitors is Worcester Academy’s student governing body and our highest level of student leadership. Its peer-elected representatives serve as a liaison between students and our faculty and administration.

Spotlight: The Pillars
Pillars Peer Educators are students who are trained to promote a variety of social-emotional health and wellness programming across campus. Pillars also play a significant role in the Orientation Program, helping new students feel welcomed and ensuring a smooth transition to the Worcester Academy community.
Clubs That Foster Passion and Purpose
Our clubs are as diverse as our community, giving students a chance to explore peer tutoring, service, professional interests, artistic expression, and so much more!
Led by students (under the guidance of a faculty mentor), these groups foster critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Club offerings vary from year to year based on student interest and faculty expertise. Students can also propose new clubs for consideration.
Middle School students can choose from more than 10 clubs, including Cheer, Dungeons & Dragons, Math Club, 3-D Printing, Affinity Group, Smile Club, and Digital Design.
Upper School students can choose from a diverse mix of over 50 clubs like Medical Explorers, DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), Green Team, Habitat for Humanity, and Relay for Life.
Spotlight: The Green Team
The Green Team empowers the Worcester Academy community to take small steps toward environmental sustainability on campus and out in the world. Activities like neighborhood cleanups, clothing drives, recycling plant visits, and Earth Day initiatives like tree planting, are aimed at promoting environmental responsibility and awareness for a better future.
Spotlight: NASA Tech Rise
Worcester Academy's Team Icarus was selected as one of about 40 secondary-school groups in the US to receive a $1500 grant to build an experiment for a NASA High-Altitude Balloon as part of the Tech Rise program. Their experiment, a muon detector deployed at 70,000 feet, was designed to investigate high-energy (cosmic) rays emerging from the sun during the peak of solar activity in 2024.

Spotlight: Black Student Union (BSU)
The Black Student Union (BSU) creates a supportive space for students of Black/African descent and their allies. Through cultural events, educational workshops, and community outreach, the BSU fosters unity, awareness, and appreciation of Black culture and history.
By hosting Black History Month activities, social justice discussions, and collaborating with other student groups, the BSU empowers students to celebrate their identities, engage in meaningful dialogue, and advocate for equity and representation at Worcester Academy and beyond.
Celebrating Hilltopper Spirit
Worcester Academy pride can be felt in every corner of campus. From pep rallies and spirit weeks to student dances and grade-level competitions, our special brand of school spirit is always in the air.
Spotlight: Battle for the Hilltop
Friendly competition meets fierce camaraderie in this week-long event that has the entire campus buzzing with excitement. Student teams go head-to-head in activities ranging from flash fiction writing to floor hockey matches to pie eating contests. Battle week culminates in a talent show that gives our entire student body a chance to showcase their talents.
