Visual & Performing Arts
Approach
The Visual and Performing Arts department empowers students to take artistic risks and engage creatively with the world around them. Through exposure to diverse artistic practices, students develop a deep appreciation for the arts and learn to work collaboratively. Our arts classes emphasize ensemble skills, creative problem-solving, autonomy, risk-taking, and reflection.
In 6th and 7th grades, students explore all aspects of the arts, which informs their choice to specialize in 8th grade. Field trips and hands-on experiences foster students’ lifelong connection between their art and the world beyond school walls. We welcome newcomers and art enthusiasts alike to explore music-making, artistic self-expression, and theatrical performance.
Application: 'Tayloret & Travio'
For their end-of-year showcase, theater students wrote and performed an original retelling of Romeo & Juliet. The adaptation, aptly called 'Tayloret & Travio', was based on their love of Taylor Swift and incorporated lessons they've learned throughout the year.
