Visual And Performing Arts

Approach

The Visual and Performing Arts department exposes students to a variety of disciplines that foster a deep appreciation for the arts while challenging them to introspect, take artistic risks, and become creative problem solvers. A wide breadth of visual arts mediums include architecture, painting, digital photography, graphic design, and ceramics. Dedicated artists can also develop their craft in advanced studio and honors art.

Experimenting with visual arts tools, crafts, and concepts, students have an abundance of opportunities to build a strong portfolio and showcase their work publicly.

Performing arts students learn to work independently and as part of an ensemble. Courses like music technology, chorus, scene study, instrumental ensemble, and playwriting, inspire students at all levels to elevate their artistic skills, with ample opportunities for performances throughout the year. Field trips and hands-on experiences help students build a lifelong connection between their art and the world beyond Worcester Academy.

Application: Expressing Our Identity Through Art

In the “Expressing Our Identity Through Art" showcase, Visual Arts students explored the theme of personal identity through a variety of innovative projects that included identity hats, identity logos, identity masks, and cardboard selfies. Each piece was thoughtfully crafted to reflect the individuality of its creator.
