Aliyah Boston: A Legacy of Excellence

On December 14, 2024, Worcester Academy made history as we retired Aliyah Boston’s #00 jersey—the first ever since the school’s inception. This momentous occasion took place during the Thomas Blackburn Basketball Tournament, adding to the excitement of an already special event. It was also a fitting tribute during our 50th anniversary of coeducation, celebrating one of the most accomplished athletes to emerge from the Hilltop.

From the moment she arrived at Worcester Academy, Aliyah Boston ’19 left an indelible mark on our basketball program. Over four dominant seasons, she led her teams to an 86-10 record, captured two Class AA NEPSAC Championships, and earned MVP honors for both tournaments. She was a three-time Gatorade Player of the Year, setting a new standard for excellence on and off the court.

Her success only grew beyond Worcester Academy. At the University of South Carolina, she earned numerous accolades, including the Naismith Trophy, SEC Female Athlete of the Year, and a national championship. On the world stage, she has proudly represented USA Basketball, winning multiple gold medals.

Her professional journey began when she was selected as the #1 overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft, joining the Indiana Fever—where she became the 2023 WNBA Rookie of the Year and a WNBA All-Star.

A Night to Remember

The ceremony was led by Director of Athletics, Julie Berberian, who reflected on Aliyah’s lasting impact:

"Aliyah, from the moment you stepped onto this campus, you not only represented Worcester Academy—you elevated it. Your skill, determination, and leadership set a new standard for what it means to wear the Worcester Academy uniform. You didn’t just play basketball; you left an incredible mark on this program and the entire community."

The event also featured video tributes from Fever Head Coach Stephanie White and University of South Carolina Head Coach Dawn Staley, who praised Aliyah’s work ethic, leadership, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

Aliyah’s former Worcester Academy teammates and coaches returned to honor her, underscoring the strong bonds and memories formed during her time at WA.

Inspiring Future Generations

Aliyah Boston’s #00 jersey will now hang as a permanent reminder of what is possible through dedication, perseverance, and passion. Her journey continues to inspire future generations of Hilltoppers to dream big, push boundaries, and make an impact—on and off the court.
